Many consumers don't even realize that they are victims of fraud or that their rights have been violated. Consumer protection law includes federal and state consumer statutes as well as common law claims such as fraud. Missouri’s consumer protection statutes prohibit deception, fraud, and other unfair practices in the sale or advertisement of goods or services. Missouri law also prohibits odometer fraud, pyramid schemes, automobile dealer fraud, and requires fair dealing by insurance companies when a consumer files a claim. Federal consumer protection statutes require dealers to honor express and implied warranties, prohibit the transmission of unsolicited fax advertisements (junk faxes), and govern the methods by which debt collectors can operate. If you believe that your insurance claim has been wrongfully denied, you have been the victim of fraud or if you believe you are the victim of debt collector harassment or deceptive collection practices, please contact our office. Similarly, if you or your business has received a junk fax, call our office as you may be entitled to recover damages. Almost all consumer protection cases are taken on a contingency basis. Prospective clients are sometimes asked to pay filing fees or other expenses.
